As parents, when we send our children off to school, we hope they enjoy a day full of learning, growing, and socializing. At the end of the day, we hope they return home to us safely.
As educators, our hopes are the same. We want to provide a safe and secure sanctuary where learning can be fostered and growth can be cultivated while children are in our care.
However, all too often, the hopes of parents are shattered by the sounds of sirens and the hopes of educators are crushed by the sounds of gunfire.
The time has come to do more to keep our children safe at school. While politicians and lobbyists debate over preventative means, the fact remains that these parents and children wait in anxious vulnerability for reassurance and a resolution to their fears. All the while, monsters are entering our schools at will and are destroying the safety of educational sanctuaries.
Evil is freely preying upon the innocent with catastrophic results.
Much has already been done to help prevent this reality and to deter would be predators. We have made progress in recent years to fortify our schools by installing door locks, security cameras, early alarm systems, and safety protocols at school entrances. Yet, time after time the evil outside is finding its way in…at tragic cost.
“Active Shooter” drills have replaced Fire Drills in focus and frequency as one literal glaring fact remains – we can and must do more. In analyzing the problem and applying our years of experience in the field, one weakness, one chink in our armor, one inherent flaw in the barricade stands out and often remains unaddressed.
Windows are historically the weakest component to any fortress and, when it comes to safety and security, are often overlooked or ignored. Windows have always been easily exploited access points for criminals with ill intent. Schools are no exception. As a society, we have tolerated this reality in exchange for our own cherished ability to stand within while gazing out. However, now there is no need to sacrifice the welcome beauty, light, and warmth that windows afford in exchange for the safety and security they do not.
We can have both.
ClearSecure is committed to helping prevent school violence by adding a near invisible force field around our innocent children in the form of reinforced security window film to complement existing security measures and add an invaluable new level of security to our schools, businesses and homes.
