Window blinds and coverings - safety tips

Most of us have blinds on our windows to block the sun in the summer. We usually close our blinds when we need privacy. If your blinds are closed, they should be turned to the position that allows the least amount of view to the inside when standing outside. If the view from outside is at ground level, the blinds should be drawn upward so intruders can not see down into the room. Windows that are higher in elevation should have the blinds drawn downward obscuring the view from onlookers below.

It seems like wherever we are, there is that one window that always has the blinds closed. Its probably a good idea to see how much privacy your blinds give you at night as well as during the day. Blinds tend to give us a false sense of security. The windows they cover are easy entry points for intruders. Just because the blinds are down does not make the window stronger or any less of a target.

Blinds have become a necessity during the summer. Don’t let them lure you into a false sense of security. Be mindful, and remember, blinds cover one of the most vulnerable areas in every building. You can keep the blinds and install security film. Our clear security film blocks 98% of UVA/UVB rays, reducing fading of your furniture, carpet and blinds. The added protection of security film not only makes your window stronger, it buys critical reaction time for you to respond.
